Gotham Pilot & Agents of Shield Season 2 Opening - Thoughts.
Well there have been two highly anticipated TV shows in the last few days. The 1st episode of the "Batman Prequel" Gotham and the start of season 2 of Marvels Agents of Shield.
My thoughts (Some spoilers)
Agents of Shield season 2 Episode 1 'Shadows': Well this sure is AOS, The Flashback start was nice (mainly to see some Howling Commando action) They've added more to their ranks, perhaps so more folks can die. It was pretty amazing to see an almost 'A list' Villain from Marvel comics join the show (as well as that 'B list' one as well) they crammed a lot into this episode that I hope will play out in a more connected to the Marvel Cinematic Universe than the first season did. Good, not great.
Gotham season 1 Episode 1 'Pilot': This I liked. Don't get me wrong I fully agree with what many are saying about this 1st look being Crammed full of future villains, comic story winks, plot set up...you name it it's crammed in there. I however feel it's there not just to keep fans watching (as if they are worried that comicbook who geeks don't see an easter egg every 30 seconds will change the channel) but it's because the writers want to get on to telling their stories and fleshing out Gotham in new and interesting ways. This Pilot actually shares a lot with the 1st episode of Rome also from show runner Bruno Heller and that turned out amazing. Last note: You rarely see young Bruce in this, but what you do see is dead on. Good, I have hopes for great.
(Note Agents had higher ratings)

Trailer: 'Mortdecai' Are we ready to let Johnny Depp be zany with a mustache again?
I'll be honest: I enjoyed that. I knew nothing about Mortdecai untill this morning but, I have to say I enjoyed that trailer. Also Jeff Goldblum so yes, I will be seeing this.
Juggling some angry Russians, the British Mi5, his impossibly leggy wife and an international terrorist, debonair art dealer and part time rogue Charlie Mortdecai (Johnny Depp) must traverse the globe armed only with his good looks and special charm in a race to recover a stolen painting rumored to contain the code to a lost bank account filled with Nazi gold.
G.O.T.G - Thoughts.
It's a win. Guardians of the Galaxy is amazing. It is pure silly movie fun times. Every person I have talked to about G.O.T.G seems to like to list what it is like in terms of mashing up other movies (for me I'd say: Futurama/Raiders/Firefly/5th Element - Yes Futurama!) But what I feel that shows is just how fresh and unique it is. It's not a "Oh do you like ______ Movies? then you'll like this." G.O.T.G is a movie of a type we don't see much of anymore. Hard to pin down and and totally it's "own thing" while giving nods to about every great movie/game/show/song/cartoon you love. Is it silly? yes. Is it sloppy? yes. Is it zany? yes. Is it a movie I know I'll watch over and over for years to come? Yes.
This was a true treat. I had my doubts. I shouldn't have had doubts. If you're one of the 3 people in the US that hasn't, go see this now.

1st Look at Wonder Woman in 'Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice"
Ok, there she is Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman in Batman V Superman. I don't have much to say, I don't really know Gal from anything so this pretty much looks like decent WW cosplay to me at this point. Thoughts everyone?

1st Look: 'Chappie' Poster shows up on Yo-Landis instagram.
So here we have our 1st look (thanks to prawn_star) at the poster for Chappie the next film from filmmaker Neill Blomkamp. I have high hopes for this one just based on Blomkamps amazing visuals and the fact the amazing weirdos Die Antwoord are playing some of the leads This could be truly weird/amazing. So far IMDB has this summary:
"After being kidnapped by two criminals during birth, Chappie becomes the adopted son in a strange and dysfunctional family. Chappie is preternaturally gifted, one of a kind, a prodigy. He also happens to be a robot."

Thoughts: Dawn of the Planet of the Apes
Wow, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes what a great movie. I have been looking forward to this ever since seeing Rise and this did not disappoint. The fact that 50-60% of the characters in this movie are MoCap actors is a feat in it's self. Dawn is an odd duck for a summer "Blockbuster" for a large part of the movie the apes speak to each other in sigh language that is closed captioned style written out for us (I found myself wondering if deaf people could actually understand the apes) yet I heard no murmurs or complaining during the film. The sound track is pretty amazing to, it comes close to being to much, yet never does it's paired so well with what is happening on screen. The acting by the apes is truly amazing the range they are able to bring through their cgi "masks" is shockingly emotional. Like the previous film this is fun, has some laughs but overall is a rough film. It's an odd honest look at war. Even the "bad guys" (human and ape) have reasons for what they do and why they think they have to. Once again Caesar is put through the ringer and comes out a bit tougher. I can only wonder (and wait with much anticipation) what will Apekinds first great leader be forced to deal with next.
Ok, so one brief kinda spoiler comment (don't read if you don't want): Oh Koba. Poor Koba. Yes he takes it to far, but if one line haunts me from this film: "Mans work, Mans work, Mans work!" wow. rough, brutal, honest, amazing.

E.W. Cover gives us our 1st Official look at Ultron (Ultrons?)
E.W. has given us our 1st look at Ultron from Avengers: Age of Ultron and he looks pretty cool. And here is a excerpt from the article itself confirming how the plot gets rolling:
For better or worse (trust us, it’s worse), his Tony Stark has devised a plan that won’t require him to put on the Iron Man suit anymore, and should allow Captain America, Thor, Black Widow, Hawkeye, and the Hulk to get some much needed R&R as well. His solution is Ultron, self-aware, self-teaching, artificial intelligence designed to help assess threats, and direct Stark’s Iron Legion of drones to battle evildoers instead.
The only problem? Ultron (played by James Spader through performance-capture technology) lacks the human touch, and his superior intellect quickly determines that life on Earth would go a lot smoother if he just got rid of Public Enemy No. 1: Human beings. “Ultron sees the big picture and he goes, ‘Okay, we need radical change, which will be violent and appalling, in order to make everything better’; he’s not just going ‘Muhaha, soon I’ll rule!’” Whedon says, rubbing his hands together.
“He’s on a mission,” the filmmaker adds, and smiles thinly. “He wants to save us.”
GOTHAM news.
So there we have a "extended look" at Gotham which looks really good to me. Everything I've seen so far seems perfect in tone.
And today we get this news from the show runner :
Every episode in the first season will introduce a character that might be a future Joker, each emphasizing aspects of the character’s iconography: a card sharp, a flower seller, a clown, or just a guy with a very big grin. All relatively unknown actors. All potentially a Joker.
So Yea, every episode is going to have "maybe Joker" in it. I wonder if that will get old quick.
I really want this to be good. I hope we somehow get many seasons of this show (please Fox? just this once?)

The Final 'Dawn of the Planet of the Apes' Trailer.
Here we have our last look at Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and while I almost think it shows us way to much, I am truly amazed that we are getting what is sure to be a sad "summer film". The first film was truly heart breaking at points and I think that trend is going to continue with this film. I really hope this film does very well at the box office so, perhaps in the future we will get more "blockbusters" with emotional depth.

New very different tone Trailer for 'Guardians of the Galaxy'
I am really liking this new trailer. Everything we've seen so far had the same "Party" tone, this one gives us more a feel of the characters. I am now truly on board with Guardians of the Galaxy.

Edgar Wright Leaves Marvels 'Ant-Man'. Thoughts.
So Edgar Wright has left Ant-Man and I couldn't care less. Well that's not totally true, I do wonder who will be directing this since the release date hasn't changed. We will get the 'new director' news from Marvel any day now. Rumor is Marvel and Wright couldn't agree on the script. I am not shocked by that. Wright has be trying to get this made since before IronMan 1. Since before there was a Marvel Cinematic Universe and due to that I'm sure his script didn't "fit in" very well any longer. Marvel asked for changes, he said no. I don't see this as the huge loss everyone else seems to think it it. I personally think his last movie was pretty bad. Yes SOTD was fun and SP was as well, so I like him 50% of the time. To me that's not a great record. Marvel has made nothing but pretty good calls so far, if they say what he wanted to do wouldn't work for them I trust them. To everyone saying "Well marvels done, they're just going to play it safe and Wright was to zany for them" I want to point out: they have James Gunn directing a movie with a talking raccoon in it for goodness sake.
Marvel Studios and Wright issued a joint statement Friday announcing the news:
“Marvel and Edgar Wright jointly announced today that the studio and director have parted ways on Ant-Man due to differences in their vision of the film. The decision to move on is amicable and does not impact the release date on July 17, 2015. A new director will be announced shortly.”

A quick catch up on the X-Men films before seeing 'Days of Future Past"
Here is a nifty summery of everything you need to remember before seeing Xmen: Days of Future past this weekend. Enjoy!
Thoughts: Godzilla
Well I just saw Godzilla and while I did enjoy parts of it very much. I feel it was a swing and a miss. I knew going in that we don't really see monsters or the King himself for like the first 50 mins (of a two and half hour long film) because the director was "building the tension". Had that been the case I'd have been onboard, but instead I was just bored. See this Godzilla movie can't decided what it wants to be, Is it the thinking mans Godzilla? No it seems it wanted to be and had some neat "science" and conspiracies, but then they remembered "Wait this is a summer block buster and most americans are dumber than shit" so they dumbed down every thing real quick. Ok so is it the huge spectacle Crazy insane BLOCKBUSTER Godzilla? No, again it kept to much of it's slow build and stupid "smarts" to be that. It seems it's going to go there sometimes but then reigns it in. While some of the end fights are amazing, we jump from perspective and angels and shoots too often to make them as enjoyable as I feel they could have been. I really wanted to like this, and if it was and hour or so shorter might have liked it more.

So what is that Batman - Superman movie thing going to be called?
Yep, so it seems it will be Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (when is the IMDB page going to update?). Why they went with "v" instead of "vs" is anyones guess.

1st Look Batman from 'Batman vs. Superman'
Well folks, there ya have it. Our 1st look at Batman's duds from B Vs. S and it looks ok. We don't have color so it is what it is. Looks a bit Dark Knight Returns and some of Jim Lee's style batsuit. I like that it looks less armored but time will tell if those sculpted muscles look all Batman & Robin style when he moves.
