Thoughts: Dawn of the Planet of the Apes

Wow, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes what a great movie. I have been looking forward to this ever since seeing Rise and this did not disappoint. The fact that 50-60% of the characters in this movie are MoCap actors is a feat in it's self. Dawn is an odd duck for a summer "Blockbuster" for a large part of the movie the apes speak to each other in sigh language that is closed captioned style written out for us (I found myself wondering if deaf people could actually understand the apes) yet I heard no murmurs or complaining during the film. The sound track is pretty amazing to, it comes close to being to much, yet never does it's paired so well with what is happening on screen. The acting by the apes is truly amazing the range they are able to bring through their cgi "masks" is shockingly emotional. Like the previous film this is fun, has some laughs but overall is a rough film. It's an odd honest look at war. Even the "bad guys" (human and ape) have reasons for what they do and why they think they have to. Once again Caesar is put through the ringer and comes out a bit tougher. I can only wonder (and wait with much anticipation) what will Apekinds first great leader be forced to deal with next.

Ok, so one brief kinda spoiler comment (don't read if you don't want): Oh Koba. Poor Koba. Yes he takes it to far, but if one line haunts me from this film: "Mans work, Mans work, Mans work!" wow. rough, brutal, honest, amazing.
