Lets talk some Marvel Movie casting! (facts and rumors)
Up 1st: Rumor. So Johnny Depp has met with Marvel and the theory is that they want him to be: Doctor Strange. Thoughts: Well it has ben stated that Marvel plans to get weirder in Phase 3 (we are in phase 2 now for those of you keep score) and that Doctor Strange was going to be the "anchor character" of that phase. (Iron man was it for phase 1 and Capt is it for phase 2). I think Depp is plenty well known to "anchor" phase 3, but he is one of the priciest Actors out there which would be a big departure from Marvels "get them just before they're hot and sigh them to a LONG contract" plan they've been using for their leads. Maybe they've got the money now?
Now Fact:
Michael Douglas is Ant Man! wait I thought Paul Rudd was Ant Man? Turns out they are both Ant Man. Yep we are finally getting that great comics legacy of many people being the same "hero" over time on the big screen. Seems Mr. Douglas is playing the original Ant Man Henry Pym (who is kinda an asshole) and Mr.Rudd is playing Scott Lang and thief turned good guy that steals Pyms tech. I predicted Pym as the Villain and I think I'm gonna be right.
A while back directer Edgar Wright had this to say:
…what we want to do, the idea that we have for the adaptation is to actually involve both. Is to have a film that basically is about Henry Pym and Scott Lang, so you actually do a prologue where you see Pym as Ant-Man in action in the 60′s, in sort of “Tales to Astonish” mode basically, and then the contemporary, sort of flash-forward, is Scott Lang’s story, and how he comes to acquire the suit, how he crosses paths with Henry Pym, and then, in an interesting sort of Machiavellian way, teams up with him. So it’s like an interesting thing, like the “Marvel Premiere” one that I read which is Scott Lang’s origin, it’s very brief like a lot of those origin comics are, and in a way, the details that are skipped through in the panels and the kind of thing we’d spend half an hour on.
